"Never wear anything that panics the cat." - P.J. O'Rourke
The Oscars were on at our house last night. Pam watched to see the dresses while I read a book, looking up every once in awhile to see what the commotion was about. If you didn't see the movies (we hadn't seen any of them, or any others for that matter) inside jokes like Harris in whitey tighties was just disturbing. It was interesting to see some of the same dresses appearing on different "best" and "worst" lists this morning. And am I the only one who can't tell the difference between three dozen black tuxes? They all could have been rented from Tuxedo World for all I know.
I took the truck's radiator in this morning to have it pressure tested and boiled out. It might not need that, but it's a lot easier to do now with it already out than pull it after the truck is all back together and the thing overheats.
Ten tons of gravel will be delivered Wednesday morning, between 10 and noon. I will be spreading it all, one wheelbarrow load at a time.
I may not need a trip to the gym Wednesday afternoon, or Thursday.
One of the 100+ year old houses we rehabbed was on Porter Ave. on the SW side of Grand Rapids. This morning on their local news site I read that just down the street in the parking lot of what is now an abandoned 7-Eleven they discovered two bodies. They think it was a murder/suicide of an estranged couple.
I suppose that can happen anywhere, but it made me think that we got out of that 'hood at the right time. Cool house with decent neighbors, but the area was definitely declining.
I only spent about an hour on the truck today but I got the radiator support installed using the special parts that arrived in today's mail, and the heater hoses cut and installed. I decided to use the old style clamps that would have been on the truck originally and was reminded why they came up with a better version.
I read an article this morning on the best way to cook BACON. Some official test kitchen tried several methods and concluded the best way to get eight or fewer strips of crispy BACON is to cook it in an iron (not aluminum) skillet that starts out cold (not already up to temp). They also tried doing it in the microwave but found it consistently came out limp, and the fat didn't cook off as effectively as it does in a skillet.
Yeah, but you have to wait so long in a skillet.
We have friends all over the country, baseball fans, who wish they could be here during March to attend Spring Training games. We have three stadiums within about six miles of our house and each stadium is home to two teams. So while people from all over the country come to get an early peek at their team we endure a month of horrible traffic and jammed restaurants.
Maybe we should figure out a way to swap residences for the month with one of those baseball nuts we know.
Naw. They live in places where it's so cold your face hurts.
Tonight's TV schedule includes new issues Top Gear (BBC America) and Tiny House Hunters. No tuxes or red carpet.

RE: BACON! I avoid the grease and residual smell when I cook our bacon outside IN the BBQ. And yes, I use cast iron. Yum!
Why would you want to get rid of the smell?? I don't even brush my teeth after BACON.
Too many years in a professional kitchen answers that question...
