"A crown is just a hat that lets the rain in." - Frederick the Great

That quote up there is profound. I don't get it, but I'm pretty sure it's deeply meaningful.

My first task this morning was taking 1/8" off the top of the bedroom door. It hasn't closed normally since the day we moved in almost 8 years ago but it didn't really matter to us. But it went on my to-do list before listing the house because I figured a buyer's inspector would catch that little issue.

I took it out to the garage, put it on my sawhorses, scribed a line, and used the belt sander to shorten the door just a bit. Put it back on the hinges and it now closes fully and easily.

That was the first thing I did today and the last thing to go well. I've gone in several times since then to open and close the door just so I could experience what success feels like.

I spent the next two hours working on the driver's door on the truck. I took off the door and shimmed out the upper hinge; nada. I tried loosening and moving the fender forward; nada. I tried using a rubber mallet to drive the door into position; nada.
You know what I'll do next?
Neither do I.

I went up to the Verizon store to move over from T-Mobile because the latter doesn't give us any coverage at our place in Oregon. Verizon happens to have good coverage there.
I got us two new phones, chargers, cases...the whole ball of wax.
You know how to use these new phones?
Neither do I.

I downloaded the manual, all 86 pages of it. I'll try to make sense of it over the next three months.

Before I did the door, while temps were still in the 80's, I went for a bike ride. When I crashed three years ago I had to stay off the bike for about six months while they figured out my heart issues. Twice after that I tried to go back to riding and both times I had a health problem as a result. I need to know if I should take the bike to Oregon - a very bike friendly state - or sell it on Craig's List, so I've decided to ride every morning for a few weeks to see how it goes. This was my first time on the bike in almost two years but it went fine. Just 8 miles at a reasonably brisk pace. I wasn't wobbly-legged at the end, but it clearly uses muscles that don't get a good workout with my gym routines. And this afternoon's work at the gym felt more difficult.

Time for coffee and brownies, or maybe some therapeutic BACON. I'll try something else on that door tomorrow. Maybe my grinder.
