"A camel makes an elephant feel like a jet plane." - Jackie Kennedy
I haven't been as regular here lately, mostly because I'm swamped, working from very early in the morning until my brain and/or body runs out of gas late in the day. By that time writing a blog post feels like turning out a 15-page fully annotated research paper.
We've attended church, either here or in Oregon, every Sunday since Pathway's end except the one we spent traveling from Hollister to Santa Ynez. It's been odd for this former prof and pastor to be on the other side of the pulpit. I never asked Pam to critique my preaching because doing so seemed unfair to her. Since we've been sitting together in the pew (actually, we have yet to sit in anything except chairs) we've had some interesting conversations about that morning's church experience, including the preaching. This old homiletics prof has introduced her to terminology like bullet and buckshot sermons, Dolly Parton preaching, and manuscript vs. extemporaneous preaching.
Yeah, I'm probably ruining church for her.
I had planned to stain and varnish the bed, but that has changed. This afternoon I discovered that yesterday when I attached cleats to the back side of the face frame with 1" finish nails my nail gun blew many of them right through the 1 1/2" of wood and they projected out the front side. The cavity that blow-through created is too big to look good with filler and then stain, so I'll be going with our second choice, filling and painting it semi-gloss white. I'm disappointed, but the good thing is that the bedspread will cover most of the bed. Oh well.
Can you imagine what would come out of his mouth the first time President Trump got upset with Angela Merkel? And how that would play in the international press?
I do agree that Jeb Bush blew it. When commenting on Trumps statement about Megyn Kelly his focus was on the party's chances of winning an election with that kind of talk, not the core offensiveness of what he said.
I liked Frank Gifford. Always seemed like a classy guy.
It's Sunday night. That means Poldark on PBS.

What's a Dolly Parton sermon?
Gifford IS a classy guy despite his marital dalliances, most notably in the late 90's with a stewardess. "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."
