"My wife is such a bad cook, in my house we pray after the meal." - Rodney Dangerfield

I read today that John Skipper, president of ESPN, has resigned to deal with an addiction problem.
Kudos, sir, for the humility, sense of priorities, and courage required to choose what is best for you and your family over a very sizable paycheck.

I started work on Sally's passenger seat today. That You Tube video had very little connection with reality but I finally got the old seat bottom off. Still have to remove the seat back upholstery, but I may put the new upholstery on the bottom first.
I also pulled up the carpet to add some sound deadening while the seat was out.
Uh-oh. Rusted  floor, including a couple of very small holes where I could see through to the driveway.
They make patch panels that are stamped just like the original flooring so at some point in the future I'll cut out that bad floor and weld in one of those panels.   I suspect the driver's side is in the same condition and will need the same treatment.
Thinking about all of that led me to decide that when I start the paint process in the spring I'm going to completely gut the interior so I can identify all potential trouble spots and get them all properly fixed.

Ran a brisk 4 miles today and the return leg was a bit faster than the out leg. A negative split is good because the return is all uphill.
We're supposed to get 3/4" of rain tomorrow so I've rescheduled butchering Burrito to Wednesday and will take the day off running.

Pam and I don't exchange gifts, including at Christmas. We stopped that years ago, as in decades. She loves to shop and I hate it. I bought her bad gifts so many times that it was just an act of compassion to let me off the hook from both shopping and one epic FAIL after another. It's worked out well for both of us. I'm spared from the pressure of an almost certain disaster and she's spared the pressure of pretending she's pleased with what I bought. Plus, the budget does better this way.

This year will be no different except that we're going to do something we wouldn't normally spend the money to do. We're calling it a Christmas "present" because of the timing. As in, we can justify it by calling it a Christmas gig.
We're going to see the Eugene Opera production of The Barber of Seville. We've been to two other operas put on by this company. They're not great productions, but Eugene is basically a small town (156,000) and we're not aficionados, so we enjoyed them. (That the tickets were gifts certainly helped.)
The Barber is one of the more well-known operas; most people would recognize some of the music. And it's a comedy which makes it easier.

I'm thinking we might go out for dinner before. There's a cool restaurant downtown called Poppi's Anatolia that serves food from the region of Anatolia (western Turkey and Greece). Check out their menu. I have NO idea what most of that stuff is, but it sure sounds good.

This will be over New Year's weekend which works out well for our schedule. I'm looking forward to it.
