The perfect Christmas gift for the person in your family who can't stand to have their
foods touching each other. (We have one in our family)
So, the industry that has played such a huge role in creating our over-sexualized society has now decided we need to roll back one of the predictable outcomes of their efforts.
Last night we watched a Great British Baking Show Christmas special in which Mary and Paul shared some of their favorite seasonal recipes. Their creations were both beautiful and mouth watering, if distinctly British. It motivated me to expand my baking horizons. I went to the show's site and found the recipes for last night's creations and was immediately reminded that I am a kindergartner and they're Ph.D.'s Goodness!
But I should have known. They talk about chemical reactions between ingredients, the effect of gluten levels in the various kinds of flours on the end result.....
I'm going to concentrate on getting my snickerdoodles rounded.
This afternoon watched a Great Performances show on PBS that was hosted by Renee Fleming, one of the top opera singers of this generation. She sat with a variety of panels from various musical genres and discussed the art and science of singing. It included segments from master's classes from those genres, from opera to gospel, to country. Boy, was it good.
I've often felt envious, jealous of people who can sing, really sing. I wish I had their ability to take what's inside and get it out through song.
You can tell the difference between someone who's singing a song and someone who is expressing their soul.
I'd also like to sit in a master's class some day. Can ordinary people sit in back at those?
I did find a You Tube video about how to install upholstery in a '66 Mustang. Alas, Ford either didn't know or didn't want to use the same straightforward system that VW used. I'd planned on starting that job this afternoon but after watching that video I realized I should be outdoors when I take the old seat cover off. It could be pretty gross under there. So I'll take it to the deck tomorrow to take the old stuff off and then bring it inside to put the new covers on.
The box I got with the car also had the kit for redoing the back seat. I'm not sure anyone ever sat back there so I may set these covers aside for future use. (Like anybody will ever sit back there.)
I shouldn't be, but I'm disappointed with the way the networks are reporting what looks like the impending tax reform legislation. "It certainly brings the biggest advantages to the very wealthy and corporations. Yes, there are some small benefits for the middle class, but the upper end of the income levels get the most relief." (CBS news tonight)
I'm willing to see how it all plays out. I'm also hopeful that the tax breaks for corporations will result in some of them moving back to the U.S. because they'll no longer want to be overseas to escape a world-highest tax rate.
Yes, people at the bottom of the income ladder will not get a tax break. Then again, they're not paying taxes anyway so it's pretty hard for them to get tax relief.
