"The dog that trots around finds a bone." - Golda Meir
IMO Dems had better be careful. They seem to forget that the majority of Americans do not live on the coasts and have a fairly pragmatic, common sense approach to life.
I doubt the courts would uphold President Trump's plan to override the constitution by executive order and eliminate birthright citizenship. But in a world where international travel is now a piece of cake and the economic advantages of being a U.S. citizen are significant, a case can be made that birthright citizenship (aka jus soli, or right of soil) no longer makes sense. It did 100 years ago (never mind 200+ years ago) but when foreign women (and others) fly in, have their baby, and return to their home country..... Huh???
Note: the U.S. and Canada are the only economically developed countries that have birthright citizenship. No European country does.
The same can be said about sending troops to the border to intercept the caravan. Common sense. And the Dems can shoot themselves in the foot if they make these issues. There are some reasonable people even on the coasts they'd alienate.
It was the Dem's dismissive attitude to the fly-over states that cost them in 2014 and it could very easily happen again.

The above was written Sunday night. I left home at 3 a.m. Monday morning and drove up to Seattle to visit mom, something I try to do every 6-8 weeks. I left there this morning about 9 a.m. for the drive home. It was a good visit, mom's doing well, and I had a coffee meet-up with Jim, the pastor at the church where we both grew up. Then before leaving this morning he gave me a tour of the major remodel job they're doing on the church. I love it!! They hope to have it either done or very very close by Christmas and I'm eager to see the finished product. It's going to look great and result in a big improvement to what happens on a Sunday morning.
The Chevy Impala was a nice car and easy to drive with one exception. The rear deck (it used to be called a parcel tray) is so high that the rear window looks like a slit in the rear view mirror. And the rear seat has a headrest on each side so that even turning to look over your shoulder doesn't help. You get mostly a view of that headrest.
At one point I had a Camaro behind me and couldn't see more than its roof.
It didn't respond right away but after a brief lag it jumped surprisingly well.
It's only a six hour drive, so why am I sooooo sleepy?
I have an 8 a.m. meeting tomorrow at church to talk about my working there. I probably should be well rested, huh? Laying my head down on the table and falling asleep isn't a good look for my first day on the job.
