The power came back on right at 6 a.m., an hour ahead of schedule. I was headed out the door and Pam was sound asleep.
It doesn't matter how wide awake you are at 3 a.m., if there's no electricity there's no light. And that pretty much means you sit there staring at the darkness.

The Dem candidates are elbowing each other in an effort to move farther left, in a dynamic not dissimilar to the GOP pol's rush to the right a decade ago. That earlier swing gave us the tea party and may have been the first step toward the current polarization. It also costs the GOP as they alienated their own base. The public out on the edges are noisy and motivated but they're too outnumbered by the masses in the middle to sustain their impact.

We were supposed to get substantial rain overnight and well into today. Nope. Which is too bad because things could use a good and natural watering. They're now saying (7:30 a.m.) that we may get thunderstorms this afternoon. Hope so. I've got inside work I can do to keep me busy.

It may seem like a dumb idea, fraught with all kinds of problems. But if it works isn't that what counts?

My cool discovery for the week....
I'm working on my presentation slides for Brazil and am using Google Translator to take some of the content from English to Portuguese. That's a tough language in many respects, including a whole passel of accents that go over vowels and under some consonants. How do you do those on a Mac keyboard??
A: hold down the vowel for a couple of seconds and a menu pops up with all the options. Click on the one you want and - poof - it appears in your text.
