"The thing generally raised on city land is taxes." - Charles Dudley
This recipe calls for the cookies to be baked 8-10 minutes so I went with 9. FAIL.
Turns out they needed 12-13 minutes.
They taste fine, even good, but why this time did it require so much more baking time? I made these a month ago and the batter was stiffer and 9 minutes sufficient.
Pam's query: "Did you mix the sugar and shortening before you added the other ingredients?
No. The recipe doesn't say to do that, you didn't tell me to do that, so why would I do that??
"Well, because that's how it's generally done."
And HOW would I know that?
But with additional time in the oven they turned out fine.
Oh well.
The above from this morning. Since then...busy. Sanded on Sally for hours and have the back half almost ready for priming. There was some body work to be done but not a lot. A little more sanding on the areas that got filler so they're smooth before I roll on the primer.
Met with Levy.
Tried to use the weed whip to clean up around the fruit trees only to discover that the pull start rope has no effect on the engine. Took the cover off to discover that a small part made out of nylong had disintegrated. So Monday I'll take it to the shop in town that works on these. Maybe they can just sell me the part and I'll install it instead of paying their labor rate to do what's a pretty simple fix.
A feed store run got hay, straw, and grain for the chicks and the goats.
We're without power again tonight. I hope it comes on at 6 like it did Friday instead of the 7 they told us on the postcard. We leave for church about 7:30 so that doesn't give us a lot of time for doing the parts of getting ready to leave that require water - like shaving or getting rid of pillow hair.
I've filled all the animals' water containers so they'll be fine until we get home from church.
Nothing more. My brain and body are both tired. Coffee, a couple of those cookies, and bed.
