"He is happiest, be he king or peasant, who finds peace in his home." - Von Goethe
It's good that I didn't post the pic I took last night of Pam's face because then I'd have to include another that shows how much worse it got overnight. Her right eye is as black as the background of the pic above this paragraph and swollen nearly shut, both sides of her cheek are swollen now, and the blue lump above her left eye looks like a 2-year old applied blue eye shadow with a spatula.
And she's sore.
But our CHT son doesn't think her hand is broken, and if it is it's a minor break that can be treated with a splint he'll send us. Pam agrees the pain isn't bad enough to warrant an Xray, so unless it gets noticeably worse over the next day or two we'll skip the medical profession (except for the very helpful consult from our sin 1200 miles away).
I did the math on my drive in this morning. (Yes, I did math in my head and drove at the same time. It was a stretch but I pulled it off.)
Not counting the Dodge we're trying to sell, we own three vehicles. Added together they are 103 years old. I'm not sure what that says about us, but we don't have any car loans and I like that.
The Oregon Country Fair is an annual weekend event that's held out in a couple of big hay fields about 5 miles from our place. It draws thousands of people, most of whom fit into one or another "alternative" category. Hippies of all ages, "artists," LGBTQ, pot heads, back-to-nature freaks, mystic healers.... Quintessential Oregon.
It's this weekend, and on my drive in I could see that the vendors are already showing up. Many locals just leave for the weekend rather than deal with the traffic, the homeless hippies, the trash, and all the other issues that come along with the event. We're staying here because life requires it, but we'll also stay on Baker Rd. as much as possible. Getting to church Sunday morning will be easy because the fair goers will still be sleeping it off, but getting home might be a challenge. We'll go the long way around to avoid the traffic as much as possible.
Note: it's indicative of the event that their website says you can't take pictures of "people who aren't fully clothed." It's also promoted as a great family event and kids get in free. Hmmmm.

Facebook tells me, "It's X's birthday today. Let them know you're thinking about them"
But I'm not. Now I feel guilty about that. (OK, maybe not)

Well, it happened again - I started a post early in the day (Wed.) and didn't get it done and posted in the evening. That may be because I'd been awake and working since 1:30 that morning. Embrace the insomnia. Or that I did a 5 mile run in humid conditions and was drenched in sweat when I got back. Or that I kept my nose down in between and concentrated on getting a lot done.
It all added up and I was in bed by 8 p.m. and asleep by 8:05. I came out to my chair about 1 a.m. because I was uncomfortable, sent my Look Out email for the day (already written and in my Drafts folder) and went back to sleep. Didn't get up until 5 a.m.
Today: rinse and repeat minus the 1:30 start.
The backup camera is installed and working. They've improved the color of the display - trees are now green - but the resolution *may* have suffered some. But I also mounted it in the center of the wider dash instead of directly in front of me so that could account for it. Also, this time I wired it to be on all the time so it functions like a rear view mirror. Looking at it and seeing things disappearing behind me as I go forward is a little like sitting in the rear-facing seat in an old 9-passenger station wagon.
I wondered if it would take the place of my windshield mounted mirror and the answer is, no. Anything further than about 100 yards is too blurry so the camera is best suited for things within that range.
I've decided there is another rodent nest somewhere on the driver side of the truck based on a strong odor. It may be inside or somewhere in the frame or engine compartment. So far I can't find it but I'll work at that more. The urine smell is pretty annoying.
Pm's face looks pretty bad. The bruises have grown and are darker. Almost black. This is going to last awhile. And tomorrow night we're going to see "Damn Yankees" at the Shedd, so that should be fun. I suggested a veil but I don't think she's going with that.
OK, I've had b'fast, two cups of coffee, fed & walked Buddy, fed the goats, and checked on the chickens. Now it's time to get cleaned up and head to work. Today is Thursday, which makes it CHEAT DAY!! So about 9:30 I'll walk down to Havest Bakery and have one of the very, very good cinnamon rolls and coffee while I continue working on my Brazil content.
Here we go!
