All power corrupts, but we need the electricity.

I got the old axle boots off and the new ones installed. I know that doesn't sound like much but trust me, it was complicated. I won't know if they sealed up well until I fill the tranny with gear oil. At that point ... I don't even want to think about it.

I also got everything done for not just this Sunday, but the next TWO, when we're on vacation. Orders of service, bulletins, Scripture readers and passages....
Found out late in the day that I have to make a small change, but no big deal.

The Tour de France starts tomorrow with the traditional opening day time trial. Or I could watch the women's final at Wimbledon. And since I'm pretty sure the only guys in the Tour not on PED's are the guys riding in the cars handing out water bottles I think I'll go with Wimbledon.

Any bike ride I do will have to be VERY early. Tomorrow's high will be 117. Close to the same on Sunday.

I have an idea. I don't know why it hasn't been implemented already, because it's overdue. The govt. is wasting time and money putting Saw Stops on table saws when they should be solving an extremely obvious problem with 90% of the cars in America.

The route I normally take into town, south down Dysart, takes me through several 4-way stops. About half that 8-mile stretch has two lanes while the rest is four lane. Most times of the day there's little traffic on Dysart or those cross streets, which encourages something less than complete alertness.

On more than one occasion I've come to a stop, looked quickly and casually to see no cross traffic and proceeded through the intersection, only to realize at the last moment that a car was entering the intersection from my right. The problem? The rearview mirror attached to the windshield is exactly in my line of sight, blocking out that car.

Why in the name of government regulators everywhere do we still have rear view mirrors attached to - think about it - windshields designed to give us good vision out the front of the vehicle??!! We haven't needed those for a decade. For half the cost of a Saw Stop every car could have a rearview camera over the license plate and an 8" LCD screen in the dash. A wide angle lens on the camera would increase the field of vision over what the mirror provides and eliminate blind spots, but more importantly it would remove a barrier to complete vision out the windshield. Glancing down at the screen (locate it near the speedo, well within the area we normally look) would be no more distracting than looking up at that mirror.

Why is that not obvious?
I only see one problem: where to hang the fuzzy dice.
