The first 90% of a project takes 90% of the time. The last 10% takes the other 90%

We hit 106 here today. The local weather guy said we'll be in this range for the next month before we get the fall cool down. Really? Can't we be done with this heat sooner than that?

<-- 1966 Rambler American, 440.

I'm declaring the Rambler done. I've still got some tinkering to do and I expect issues to emerge as I drive it increasing distances, but it is now roadworthy. The plan is to get it licensed tomorrow and just keep fussing with it. Still have a brake issue to sort out, but today I replaced the flasher and the vacuum line that runs the wipers. Yep, no electric motor, but a vacuum line that runs off the fuel pump.
It drives like a 60's car, which is very different from today's autos. The steering is heavy by comparison and the ride soft, mushy. The springs of the bench seat are worn but I don't think it was firm to begin with. I'll get one of those spring cushions that will help keep me cool while it adds firmness.
Note: no American-made car being made now is available with a front bench seat.

Now back to work on the VW. Maybe I can get some fenders back before the year is out.

After I get back from the MVD Pam and I are heading up to Prescott for the day. That's 90 miles and just under two hours north of us at 5400' elevation. There are some nice trails to walk and an interesting downtown with shops and restaurants. Mostly it will be cooler, with a forecasted high of 79 degrees. We agreed a get-away is necessary, even if it's just for the day. We haven't broken the routine since we got back from our camping trip in July. Because I work the weekends and she works week days it's too easy just to stay at home and never go anywhere, so tomorrow's divertimento will be a refreshing change.

Why do we observe Labor Day? What does it commemorate? Based on some of the Facebook postings I've seen today a few people seem to think it has something to do with veterans and freedom. Uhm, folks, that's Memorial Day.
This is about mothers giving birth.
