I didn't fall. The floor just needed a hug.

Pam has spent most of the day in with the grandkids while Josh and Aubri are at the gym. The Crossfit Gym they're part of is hosting a big competition and Josh is in charge of the judging while Aubri competes. I think he said they'd have 135 two-person teams and it goes all day.

I should have taken advantage of the extra home-alone day to get all sorts of chores done but, FAIL. I worked on cars this morning, did the laundry, and then pretty much frittered the afternoon away. I did spend time going over tomorrow's sermon and lesson but most of the afternoon was spent watching college football and the Mecum Auction from Anaheim.
Notre Dame gave Wake Forest a beat down, but they'll probably still be ranked #3.

College football is interesting at the big school level. Because I went to a tiny college with athletic teams that were abysmal (the b'ball team has won the national championship the last four years, so they changed something!) I have no frame of reference. But to watch a stadium full of tens of thousands of students who don't know each other but are bound together by their loyalty to a monstrous institution is impressive.

I saw this link posted on FB today. I enjoy what's now called Traditional Gospel Music, have quite a bit of it in my iTunes folder, and have a Pandora station for it. Sister Rosetta Tharpe was a matriarch. This genre gave birth to rock 'n roll.

I've got the flooring mostly done. What you see in the before pics is the floor covered with a roofing product from Home Depot. The original VW sound deadening material is a tar board that is still available but very expensive. Most restoration projects use Dynamat, another very expensive sound deadening product designed for cars. This stuff comes in a roll and is used as a seal around roof vents and in valleys before the shingles go on. It has peel-off paper that exposes the tar side that's really sticky, with this shiny surface opposing. It's almost exactly the same, about 1/8" thick, and costs about 1/3 of Dynamat and 1/4 what the reproduction VW stuff runs.

A lot of people doing a VW carpet the whole interior but they came from the factory with rubber mats on the floor and carpeting on the sides, so I went original. The carpet in back is in what VW called the "luggage tray" and it's behind the rear seat. There are pieces of carpet that go over the wheel wells but I won't put those in until I get the panels for the doors and rear seat area. That way I can make sure they line up properly. The headliner in the rear quarters is loose and wavy, but I'll tighten it up when I put in those back carpet panels. I've got some other areas of the headliner I'm not happy with and that I'll try to improve.

Today I also covered the doors with plastic, visible in the after pic of the front. It's just a garbage bag cut open and sized to fit, then attached with spray adhesive. The door cards are made of something like cardboard covered with vinyl. Some rain will always get down past the window and inside the door and this plastic prevents it from getting the back side of the door cards wet and trashed. I made sure the drain holes in the bottom of the door cavity were open before I put the plastic on.

I've ordered new boots for the E-brake lever and the shift lever and they'll arrive early next week.

I'm exercised about tomorrow. Not unusual for me on a Sunday evening but both hours are pretty important and central to who we are as a church. Coincidentally (?!) we're in the middle of three or four Sundays like that - opportunities to express or core values.
I really like my job.
