"If I had only known, I would have been a locksmith. " - Albert Einstein

In honor of today's devastating news.

Second post today. If you want to read the one I put up this morning it's below this one. Couldn't help myself. Had to get it off my chest.

Left on my weekly long ride - which is at this point 24 miles - about 10:00. Friday is supposed to be what's called LSD, for Long, Slow Distance. The goal is mileage, nothing more. But I hit four of the first five lights when they were green and that pretty much was the end of that plan. My bike's computer keeps running for several seconds after I've stopped and that really drags down my average speed, the figure I look at when I get back home to evaluate the quality of the ride. When I hit that string of green lights I knew I had a chance to turn in a good time for this route and couldn't help myself. Got back with an average of 16.7 mph for the ride, just .6 slower than the 15 I did Wednesday when I was trying to ride briskly (but I hit a lot of red lights on that route).
I'm HUNGRY!
This always happens after a long ride, never mind a long brisk ride. My brain says the calories were all earned and I don't need to worry about anything that goes in my mouth. So everything goes in my mouth. Chips and Oreos are so convenient.

Got the rest of the carpet pieces installed in Ilsa this afternoon except for the two that abut the side panels in back. I don't want to glue those in until I have the side panels so the joint is a good fit. I'll order the panels next month. She's starting to look like a VW. Now, if I could just get some fenders.

Noel stopped by on the way home from his bike ride. He asked what kind of church I pastor. I told him it's a one-off, not associated with any denomination. He likes that. Has a very dim view of the Roman Catholic church and their wealth, especially when they ask for more.

On Mike & Mike the other morning they were talking baseball, the discussion about who should be the American League MVP, and the whole sabermetrics controversy. Greeny introduced the segment by asking Golic if he was old school or new school. He explained he meant that question to refer to life in general, not just baseball issues, or sports matters in general. Music, technology, lifestyles...

Of course I asked myself that question as they discussed it. I think I'm pretty new school. I still have a dumb phone but that's because I can't see paying the extra money for internet access on a phone. And I had to ask Pam who Selena Gomez is, but I get points for knowing Justin Bieber. (They're in a well publicized on/off relationship, for those of you who don't know...and don't care.)

Maybe I consider myself new school because I live in Sun City and don't drive a Buick or watch Matlock reruns. The new school threshold is admittedly pretty low here. But I alternate between classical music and rock and roll (Janet Jackson's "Nasty Boys" playing as I type this), and watch "Elementary."

Are you new school or old school?

I had to get another can of contact cement to do the rest of the carpet pieces and while I was at Home Depot I picked up a package of paperwhites and an amaryllis bulb. So I'm going to go heat up the rest of last night's pizza and get those potted before Pam gets home. She'll like that.
