Parallel lines have so much in common. It's a shame they'll never meet.

I didn't have a very good day. I'm trying now to work off the serious grump I have as a result.

I was at United Rentals when they opened at 7 a.m. to rent a walk-behind trencher for eight hours, with hopes that I could the 160' of ditch dug in four hours and save a chunk of change. After an hour of frustrating struggle I gave up and took it back. The very gracious guy behind the counter said, "Well, I have to charge you something. How about $50?"
Uhm...thank you!

The ground is just too wet. With the trench arm lowered the wheels just spun, burying themselves. The augers designed to move the dirt out to the side as it's pulled up by the arm couldn't deal with the soggy clay soil.
I could have wrestled for all eight hours and had nothing but a bad attitude to show for it.

Right after taking it back I called Todd, who lives up the road. He did the Bobcat work for me last fall and has a backhoe that will get this job done. $$$. He'll come either tomorrow or Thursday.

I need 160' of 8-3 UH wire to put down in that trench. I spent over an hour on that, but can't find it in Eugene. One supply house said they could have it down from Portland in 2-3 days, but I want to lay it in the trench right after Todd digs it so he can also backfill the trench with his backhoe.
I called the electrician I'm having come to make the connections at either end and he said I could go to 10-3 UH which I found at one retailer here on the west side.
Home Depot and Lowe's both don't carry either gauge. Go figure.
So, my morning was spent losing a wrestling match and my afternoon trying to find wire to lay in the trench I don't have.

Are the Republicans headed to a brokered convention? Kasich thinks it's likely and would be "exciting," while Cruz thinks it would be a very bad thing.
One of those two has an easy-going manner and the other got the "does not play well with others" box checked on his report card. Guess which one doesn't want party leaders playing any role in who gets the nomination.
That would be the same one who doesn't have the support of a single fellow senator. Not one of his colleagues thinks he's the best option.

The President didn't attend the funeral of a sitting Supreme Court justice. He's not going to the funeral for a highly regarded former First Lady. Added together those decisions seem to send a message, especially in the context of his very public comments about officer-involved shootings of Black men.
I saw something on Facebook a couple of weeks ago that was, I think, a petition calling for the administration to send an official representative to the funeral of every law enforcement officer who dies in the line of duty. I think that's entirely appropriate.

Pam's out for a couple of hours. My goal while she's gone is to finish my attitude recover program. To do that I'm going to have to turn off the election coverage (way too much Donald Trump) and heat up some good Costa Rican coffee.
