"Never trust a husband too far, or a bachelor too near." - Helen Rowland

45 years ago today. Two dumb kids who had no idea. Thankfully, God graciously preserves.

An odd miscellany of random thoughts:

  • We watched some women's rugby this morning and learned that the penalty box is called the "sin bin." I think that would make a great name for parents' time out area. Besides being easy for a toddler to say it reminds them of the core issue.
  • Thinking back to the opening ceremonies, why wasn't Gisele Bunchen's overtly sexual strut across the stadium decried as inappropriately sexist and objectifying?
  • For that matter, while they were calling out the industrialized world for contributing to global warming through the use of fossil fuels why was there no mention of the destruction of the Amazon rain forest, one of the most significant factors as it dumps carbon into the atmosphere and destroys trees that help with carbon emissions?
  • It's really, really weird not to go to church on Sunday morning. I've got 65 years of routine that says the week revolves around that marker. I'm not sure an evening worship service is going to fulfill that need. I'm curious to see how my internal timepiece feels after we walk out of tonight's service. (I'm obviously writing this earlier in the day.)
  • I loved the story earlier this week of the NJ guy who died and got two obits in the paper, one from his wife and one from his girlfriend. Awkward! His girlfriend's name was Princess Hall. Don't look for Princess at the post-funeral open house.
  • You heard about the French gymnast who came flying off the vault and whose leg snapped on the landing. I cannot bring myself to watch the video. It gets worse. Today I read that when they got the stretcher bearing him out to the ambulance ... they dropped him!
  • The terminology of the individual sports is interesting. Depending on the sport the area on which the contest occurs is a field, a pitch (soccer and some others) or a piece (fencing).
  • The crash of the Dutch female cyclist was as scary as I've seen. A header at that speed could easily be fatal. So far no word on her condition.
  • Leroy said he thought he'd have my transmission open by last Thursday and be able to give me a diagnosis/estimate. I exercised exceptional discipline by not calling him Friday, but by mid-morning tomorrow I'll drive the 5 miles over to see what's up.
  • I'll also drive into Coastal Farm to explore shallow well pumps, goat fencing, and chicken nipples. With Fred all but done and the trees beginning to come down Thursday it's time to prepare for the next set of projects.
MaƱana!

How much milk do you think the chickens will produce?
