"Sometimes I lie awake at night and ask, 'Where have I gone wrong?' Then a voice says to me, 'This is going to take more than one night.'" - Charles M. Schulz

I've been missing for a couple of days, but we don't need to go into the reasons. Let's just say stress isn't conducive to blogging.

We did have a nice Thanksgiving. We were invited to John and Lorraine's home for a great meal and equally good company. Pam knows her from the women's Bible study they attend on Tuesday mornings and Lorraine took pity on a couple of Oregon orphans. They also invited a really nice older lady, Carolyn, who's originally from Louisiana and sounds like it.
This seems to be characteristic of the community ethos at University Fellowship Church. They're a very friendly group.

We've had enough breaks in the weather that I've been able to get a run in each day. I'm increasing my mileage gradually, almost back to where I was when I quit because of all the work associated with the logging here at the property. I plan to run that New Year's Eve event, doing the 5k version. It starts at 11:59 p.m. so you can run in the new year, and they have a second one that starts at 10 am. New Years Day. If you do both you're entered for an additional set of raffle prizes. But mostly, I looked at the age division times from last year's event(s) and I could take first place in that midnight run, so I gotta do it.

I realize this will be a total BORING to most of you and you'll move right on by this, but if you're interested in mechanical or automotive stuff, this is pretty cool IMO. It was produced by our military in 1954 as a training course on how automatic transmissions work. Decent explanation, especially given that it's a govt. production.

Hillary Clinton is joining the effort for a recount in Wisconsin, even though they admit they did extensive research and could find no evidence of tampering, hacking, or voter fraud.
Because yeah, this is good for the country.

Colin Kaepernick wore a T-shirt with the likeness of Fidel Castro to a video press conference and got called out for it by a sports writer in Florida. Kaepernick explained that Castro did good stuff for his people, treating them better than our govt. treats its citizens.
So a trade to the Miami Dolphins probably isn't going to happen.

We have this thing at our house. You know you're in for an adventure in dining when Pam has her laptop out in the kitchen.
I don't understand.
Her husband has The. Least. Discerning. Palate. on the planet. Fine dining and subtle flavors are a total waste on me. I'm perfectly happy to eat the same six things in rotation for the rest of my life. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is nowhere more true than with meal prep.

My wife, on the other hand, gets some strange kind of pleasure from trying new things in the kitchen. She comes across a recipe that catches her attention and feels some need to try it out, hence the laptop open on the kitchen counter. It's to be expected; a certain percentage of those adventures in cooking are going to FAIL. And those will happen in direct proportion to how hungry her husband is.

It gets especially...interesting...when she doesn't have one of the ingredients and has to substitute.
"It called for molasses but I didn't have any so I used soy sauce. Hey, they're both brown."
OK, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but we've had some pretty weird meals.
And it's all the crazier because I don't care at all about interesting meals or variety. Just give me the same good stuff we had last week.

No laptops in the kitchen. It's not going to end well.
