"I can speak Esperanto like a native." - Spike Milligan
This morning ass I listened to pundits doing yet another post-election analysis of what happened and why, and a Democratic pundit talking about how the party needs to reconnect with America, I had an epiphanette.
Maybe you can describe our bifurcated country in terms of wardrobe, recreational activities, diet, and the like.
One America doesn't know what Carhartt is and the other can't spell Versace (or pronounce it if they see it in print).
One America drinks Bud and the other drinks Merlot.
One America goes hunting and the other goes to Europe.
What contrasts would you add? Yes, it's simplistic, but it's kinda fun to think about the differences in this way. And certainly lots of people are cross-over Americans, sipping Merlot in their Carhartt.
We got down to 22 overnight, 12 degrees below average. Because of the rain and ice I haven't run since Tuesday and haven't been out of the house except to tend the chickens since Monday. I feel like a fat lazy slob. I WILL run today!
I got a message from Marta last night. Shady had triplets, so there's the first bottle baby. Ember is due tomorrow, but like humans goats can be days late. Marta said we could come get one of Shady's bucklings and one of Ember's when she kids, or come get both kids at the same time. We opted for the latter for several reasons, including our schedule Sunday. But the good news: WE HAVE GOATS! It will be two bucklings, whether they're both from Shady (all three were bucklings), or one from Shady and one from Ember. I'll turn them into wethers when they're about 10-12 weeks old, and 9-12 months from now we'll have some very good meat.
We have to come up with names so we can identify which one we're talking about. Suggestions? I've thought about famous male duos, including Butch & Sundance, Martin & Jerry, Simon & Garfunkel....
The downside: I'll have to stay home next month when Pam goes to AZ to visit the family. And that's a big downside. I may have to make a trip on my own after she's back.
The flip side: she'll stay home next weekend while I make a very quick trip to Seattle. Mom turns 94 on Christmas Eve and her sons are gathering to celebrate the occasion. I'll drive up Friday and back Sunday, Christmas day. Hoping for good weather and clear roads, and praying my older brother will have the same as he drives from Spokane over the mountains.
President Obama says we'll retaliate for Russian hacking of our computers.
President Obama said we'd act if Assad crossed the "red line" by using chemical weapons.
I'm confused. Did Hillary lose because of Comey's statements, the Russian hacking, or unfair treatment from the press?
I needed some new blue jeans so we decided to go into Fred Meyer and then eat at Carl's Jr. The drive in was...beautiful. The trees are still coated with ice from Wednesday's storm and look lacy white. We could see lots of broken limbs and trees laying on the ground, and those that haven't fallen are bent over from the weight, but it is pretty. And cold.
Already down in the 20's and it's only 6:30.
Tomorrow I'll order 8 bare root fruit trees from Decker Nursery. We decided at dinner what trees we'll get - 3 different apple, 2 plum, 2 peach and an apricot. We get a 10% discount for ordering before the end of the month and the trees will come in late January to early February. These, plus the 3-in-1 apple tree we got last year will fill up one of the areas where the fir trees were removed and represent the last of the money we got for the logging. Now if I can keep them alive.
When we got home from town, just 15 minutes ago, MoHo was down to 54 degrees. Getting the stove going was job #1. Heating a cup of coffee came next.
