The interior of the new Hyundai Haiku
We've had two bids on the truck today that each bumped it up significantly. The auction ends tomorrow at 1:15 or later, depending on last minute bids that will extend the time, and based on the high bid at this point I'm optimistic.
And still praying.
Tomorrow morning I'm driving Sally 30 minutes north to the tiny community of Cheshire to talk to a guy who runs an auto paint business out of his home. Marta and David told me about him, and that he does good work for a reasonable price. I'm nowhere near ready for paint, either in terms of the prep I want to do or having the money, but I want a general idea of what he wants in both areas.
This morning I read up on Constantine the Great, the Roman emperor who converted to Christianity in A.D. 312. Almost overnight Christianity went from being a religio illicita to religio licita, with official sanction from the state. Next thing you know we've got the Holy Roman Empire with the reverse - the church sanctioning the state. And it was all downhill from there for both of them until Martin took a stand in 1517.
I really wanted to work outside today on any one of several projects that need doing but it was cold, wet, and blustery for most of the day. Wasn't spring supposed to show up about now? Tomorrow: more of the same.
So I worked inside, including on our taxes. IF I understand it all we don't have to file with the IRS because our income, 99% of which came from Social Security, is so low that even the federal govt. can't bring itself to take money from us. I still have to look into what view the State of Oregon takes of our relative poverty.
But we're not poor at all. Forty five years later we're having fun together, we've got kids and grandkids as good as they get, we live in the woods with chickens and goats, and are both healthy for being old people.
Plus, I've got a 51-year old Mustang sitting out there that's gonna be a looker some day.
