"A fool and his money are soon elected." - Will Rogers

We hit 95 again today, but it's cooling off now (9 p.m.), down to 73 with a nice breeze blowing. Tomorrow it will be 90 and then 85 on Saturday. Is the heat wave coming to an end?

None of the 10 chicks we got from the feed store turned out to be a rooster so Pam stopped in to tell them we were in the market for one. They sometimes have people who do get one as part of their order (they promise a 95% accuracy) and the feed store takes them back for people like us who need one.
They did get one of those calls and put them in touch with us, so today Pam drove into Eugene to get "Spike," an Olive Egger. That's what happens when a breed that lays a blue egg - an Americauna for example - is bred to a breed that lays a brown egg (like a Rhode Island Red). He's big for his age so we're hoping this 4-month old will become a good defender of his flock. So far he seems to be large and in charge. I watched him chase all the hens into the coop as the sun was setting.

And as long as we're doing animal pics, here's one I took tonight of Stella. She's a year old this month and will be ready for breeding in Feb. or March. She's a good looking doe with a long straight back, good weight, two teats, and good musculature. If she's a good momma she'll be the best we could want.

I got the bedroom painted. Pam came home with a half dozen color cards and I urged her to go bold (her version of bold) and choose the celery green. Except now that it's on the walls it looks more like the inside of a mint Oreo.
I told Pam I'd repaint if she wants to choose another color. For the cost of a gallon of paint (with half left over) and the 2-3 hours of time I'd gladly.

Painting in 95 degree heat with the humidity already high... As the paint dries the humidity rises further.
Note: it will cool off significantly over the next two days, so repainting really wouldn't be a problem.

Next up is replacing the carpet in the room, and if I'm going to repaint I want to do it before I do that.

I made good progress on the penultimate chapter at the coffee shop this morning. I told a couple of people in MI that I hope to have the draft done in two months, ready to send to readers. I might just make it!
