"Never try to impress a woman, because if you do she'll expect you to keep up the standard for the rest of your life." - W.C. Fields
I'ts 2 p.m. and I'm suddenly feeling some serious jet lag. It's OK though, because I got a lot done this morning. I spent 45 minutes with the guy from the stove shop who will email me an estimate. He had some good suggestions for how to make my ember barrier and he used his special gizmo to test the moisture content of my firewood, which came in at 5%, well below the 20% limit. I got the barn cleaned, the Kia vacuumed out, some work on Sally, a good run, and a few other misc. tasks. I'm hoping for a second wind so I can cross a few more things off the to-do list, but it's heating up. 90 now and headed to 95.
David and Marta own a rental about one mile out on my running route and were both there working on it when I went by. I stopped in to ask Marta goat questions and David building questions. I learned about selling meat goats: they have to be live or be butchered by health dept. standards, and sell for about $1.50 to $2.00 a pound live weight. (I didn't think it was that much.)
From David I learned about scissor trusses and that vinyl siding has a mold problem here. And that I should use T1-11 with vents for my soffits.
Now, at 7 p.m., it's 91 outside and 91 inside. I can't stop sweating or find the energy to do anything else. The temp has normally dropped significantly by this point and the weather guy says the problem is smoke particles from the fires nearby creating an "umbrella" keeping the heat in place. And we have NO breeze to bring cooler air from the coast.
If we can hang on for another two days we're supposed to be down into the mid-80's.
If we can hang on.
I need to go down and put the goats into the barn for the night. Then I'm going to sit without a hot computer on my lap. Tonight feels worse because the humidity is up (40%) and the dew point is at 61. Ugh.
