(On seeing a former lover for the first time in years:) "I thought I told you to wait in the car." - Tallulah Bankhead
Pam asked me last week what I planned to wear while preaching at Grace Adventures this Sunday. I answered, "A button down shirt and my khakis." No response meant she thought that was OK.
I wore the khakis to church Sunday.
Yesterday she told me I shouldn't wear them to preach. Apparently in my old age I've lost my butt. "Those look pretty baggy in the seat."
So it's official; since moving to OR I've worked my a$$ off.
I haven't flown United Airlines in years but they were the cheapest (NOT cheap) for this trip and high summer rates meant I needed to get the lowest fare I could.
I'm now learning that my "Basic Economy" ticket has more restrictions than I thought were possible. I can't choose my seat, can't change my seat even by paying extra money, can't take a normal-size carryon bag (only one that's 9"x10"x17"), and will get poked with a cattle prod if I even think about reaching for the call button.
I'm going to measure my backpack and hope it's under that size limit. I also will never go near a United flight again.
One of the two kitchen windows faces west and gets full sun from about 1 p.m. until sunset. We have a pull-down shade, but even with that we get a scary amount of heat off that window in the afternoon. With temps in the triple digit range for the next three days and in the upper 90's until next Wednesday I decided it was time to do something about that heat source. So last night I cut up a sheet of drywall I had left over from Fred's rehab so that it fits snuggly over the glass, completely covering the window. It's making a big difference, but the only way to know exactly how much is to remove it and see how much hotter it gets in here.
Not.
I'm painting our bedroom which is currently covered with classic 70's dark paneling. It's way too hot to do anything outside so this afternoon I did the cut-in with the primer. Tomorrow I'll roll it out and then do the color coat when I get back from Michigan.
The old German lady who lived here for years before moving into a nursing home was, by all accounts from the neighbors, a character. I would love to see what the bedroom looked like when she lived here. I removed at least 30 staples from just one of the walls. Some were within inches of the ceiling and others just as close to the floor. The were in no discernible patter, not in squares like they held up posters of Ferraris or Sean Connery. Totally random groupings and spread all over the wall. Odd.
All the news and all the talk here is the heat. Hey, we made national news. OK, not Elmira, but Eugene got a mention. But when it gets this hot and you life in a '89 MoHo sans AC this kind of heat pretty much defines life.
And sitting with a hot laptop is not conducive to long blog posts.

Just trying to be helpful. My parents lived in an old double-wide for years but never did anything to help keep things cool in hot central Washington.

Maybe something like this? (and on sale, too)

I don't know how much this costs:

There is always building a roof structure, with rafters and plywood, over the mobile home. But probably too costly, especially since you are going to remodel anyway.

etc., etc., etc.

This kind of heat is so rare here (we're setting all-time records) that we hope to hold out for another week in order to spare the budget. The first step in the remodel is a roof-over like in your last link. I'm going to put on a metal pitched roof that will last longer than we will, add R-value to help keep us cool in the summer, and look 100% better. So if we can make it to next summer and that project we'll be fine.
And we WILL make it to next summer. Remember, I'm Scottish.
