"Flattery is like cologne water, to be smelt, not swallowed." - Josh Billings
My new running shoes came today and I decided to take them for a 4-mile run even though it was raining. The difference was immediately obvious. I could run on the gravel portion of Baker Rd. without any pain from rocks pushing through the soles and they felt noticeably more stable.
I've targeted a 10k race in Eugene on 12/16 as my next goal and hope to do it in under 60 minutes. That's slow, but will give me a starting point from which I can improve when the spring running season begins. I'd LOVE to get down into the high-40 minute range. So my training will focus more on pace and less on distance, though I'll still try to get one run of about 8 miles in each week.
I'm no economist but I like what I've read about the GOP tax plan. I like it that the Mortgage Interest Deduction has a cap that shuts it off at a mortgage beyond $500,000 and that the property tax deduction is capped at $10,000 per year.
Not surprisingly, the Dems are denouncing even those changes that affect the wealthy they have criticized so often as getting unfair and unneeded advantages from the tax code.
Today, thanks to friend Sherry, I learned the difference between a proofreader and an editor. Here is an article she sent me that explains the different people who help the author not make a fool of himself.
I need F - All of the Above
Yesterday AJ and Burrito turned four months old. I weigh them monthly, holding them while I step on our bathroom scale (outside). That's getting trickier as they get bigger. And they are getting big.
AJ, on the right, now weighs 70 lbs and Burrito 58 lbs. Over the last month they've gained 15 pounds and 13 lbs. respectively. Marta says a gain of 10 lbs. per month at this age is good and that less is to be expected in the month after weaning (as in, the last 30 days).
My goal is to butcher between 80 and 90 lbs., so AJ has a limited future while Burrito may have another 60 days.
Wallpaper is coming back into style. Go figure.
