"When suffering comes we yearn for a sign from God, forgetting we have just had one." - Mignon McLaughlin

The more I think about it the more I'm convinced a child of God should never take offense.
Note: there's a difference between finding something offensive and taking offense. The former finds something "out there" morally wrong while the latter is about me, is centered on self.
Finding something offensive seems almost necessary if we're to be people with standards. The person who finds nothing offensive must also find nothing virtuous.
But the person who is offended sees themselves as of greater worth than those offending words or actions indicate. That focus on self is inconsistent with the biblical value of servanthood and the teaching that we are to consider others above ourselves.
"When they hurled their insults at him he did not retaliate" (1 Peter 2:23).
I may certainly disagree with your comments about me, your actions toward me, or ____. But if I am offended doesn't that mean I'm thinking about myself and worried about my status, views, etc.
Hey, I'm not that big a deal.
(And neither are you.)

I'm determined to run through the Oregon winter save for those days with a real downpour. And even on those days there's usually a window where it lets up to ordinary rain, or even a drizzle. I've got a tight fitting water proof jacket I wore on rainy bike rides that works well for running, too. But my head... And the rain spots my glasses enough that I have trouble seeing clearly, a problem on our country roads with no shoulder. I wore my D'backs hat Thursday and it kept the rain off my glasses, but it got totally soaked and took two days to dry out. So the other day I went looking online for waterproof hats.
In the process of that search I discovered HeadSweats, a company that just makes hats. Turns out they have a water resistant hat designed for running in the rain that's washable AND on clearance for half price.
Done!

I made a new screen for the bathroom window. It's called a jalousie window, a weird name for a window with panes like louvers that open with a crank mechanism. Apparently somebody thought they were a good idea for MoHo's back in the 70's.
I bought new screen fabric and molding at Lowe's and spent an hour this morning making a new screen. Now we won't have anymore lady bug masses or those giant nasty beetles that are drawn to the light in the morning.
Pam was not a fan.

Did five miles this afternoon and felt like I weighed 300 pounds. Sluggish, slow and my left foot hurt again. Grrr.

The Univ. of Oregon (here in Eugene) sports fans are crazy about their football team. Maybe it's because the closest NFL team is in Seattle and the closest pro team in Portland (Trailblazers; yeah, they play in the NBA). The Duck's logo is everywhere, including on at least 20% of the vehicles.
Their conference rival is the U of Wash. Huskies. That game is being played tonight in Seattle.
That's the game that pits my home town against my current residence. And the Ducks head coach attends our church.
So, do I wear my Huskies shirt to church tomorrow? To small group Tuesday night?
