"Most people have the will to win. Few have the will to prepare to win." - Bobby Knight
I had imaginations of getting home full of energy for all kinds of tasks awaiting my return.
Then my body hit eight hours of flights, three airports, a three-hour time zone change, and an 11 p.m. arrival at home.
The morning was entirely unproductive unless you count feeding goats, cleaning the barn, and unloading my suitcase a half-day's work.
This afternoon we went into town to make several stops including Midgley's, the go-to store in Eugene for wood stoves. We'd decided that's what the Eastport income would go toward and it's time to begin the planning for a summer installation. The stove we have is 40 years old, very inefficient, and way too big. I needed the dimensions of the new stove so I can make the necessary ember barrier for it to sit on. I can't begin that project until we're done using this wood stove for heat, but that should happen in another month.
_____________
I fully intended to finish that post after dinner - pizza at the local dive - but had a mental and physical collapse when we got home. To make matters worse, I'd already consumed all the coffee I made in the morning. There was nothing to do but watch Endeavour (PBS detective sow recorded in my absence) and go to BED.
It's now Wednesday morning and the mental fog is starting to lift. Alas, the rain is starting to fall and will continue through Friday, so most of the outdoor tasks are on hold.
Stalin said the death of one man is a tragedy and the death of a million is a statistic.
At this point President Trump's extramarital sexual encounters have approached the category of statistic.
A bad storm somewhere is a news story unless you know the people living through that storm. So, to my new friends on Long Island, my sincere sympathies as you endure the fourth Nor'easter in a month's time. I have felt your pain.
You folks should know that even with a light rain it's a comfortable 55 degrees here with ZERO wind. Feel free to come for a visit!! (Warning: you might not go back.)
They say it takes one day of recovery for every time zone you travel through, which means I have another day to go before I'm "normal".
Yesterday I was physically exhausted and just wanted to sleep. Today my fatigue is more emotional. I was good for the first few hours of the day and then slid into a funk. I fought it by staying active. Cleaned out the coop, stacked some firewood, went for a 2 mile run, worked on getting the new walkways ready, messed with Sally's carb.....
I think I'll be in bed early again.
