"Heifer cow is better than none." - Groucho Marx

I need an off switch for my brain. At 12:45 a.m. it decided sleep was an unnecessary interruption and it was time to get back to work. I'd like to say my 3 lb. lump of gray got significant work done but mostly what it did was re-chew things beyond my control.
I remember my childhood pastor preaching a sermon from Psalm 3. David opens that song talking about his enemies who plot to ruin him and his confidence in the Lord's protection and control. Then he says, "I lay down and slept...." as evidence of his calm because of his faith in God's sovereign goodness.
Powerful and convicting.

This was posted on the Veneta Community Facebook page:
Pediatric specialties sometimes publish or post what are considered norms for a child as they grow. "By two years old a child should ________." Those age-appropriate skills or behaviors may apply to their vocabulary, motor skills, or social interactions.
Could the same kind of metrics be developed to assess spiritual maturity? That is, by what point should a Christian have progressed from "milk" to "meat" and what would that look like?
Heb. 5:12 addresses Christians who should have progressed to meat but, to their shame, were still "milk" believers. "By this time you ought to be...." Clearly the author had some basis for judgment, some standard in mind they had not met.
I'm working on some standards. Very early in the process.
By the time someone has been a Christian for ____ years they should be able to ________.
And if they can't does that say something about their level of commitment to the faith, or about their church's commitment to a teaching ministry, or both??
A set of age appropriate standards like that could be used when deciding content for adult classes with something akin to college-like 100, 200, 300 level course offerings for people to choose from. So a 100 level class might give an overview of the OT and NT with a final exam (optional) where the student writes out a timeline of Bible history from Genesis to Revelation showing significant events and people.

I picked up the engine at 8 this morning and delivered it to Ron. I don't know a lot about it - how many miles on it, etc. - but it still has the factory metal tag on the head so it hasn't been opened up.
The yellow rags just cover the holes where the distributor and fuel pump go - items that will come off my engine. As will the new carb and manual choke I installed.
It was a deal for $300 if it turns out to be a good engine. If not...oh well.

I wish I had the setup to do the job myself. It's no more complicated - maybe less - than what I did with the truck. Pretty much just bolting things together. But with a dirt floor "garage" and no easy access to an engine hoist, plus the time I'd spend doing it on a car I need for my commute it only makes sense to have Ron do it

I saw one of those ambulance-chaser lawyer ads this morning. "If you took Invokana and developed genital gangrene...."
My ears didn't hear the rest of it because my brain was stuck on genital gangrene.
That's a real thing?? Yeah, I could Google it but I don't want to know.
