"The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average man." - Winston Churchill

It got down to 28 last night. More accurately, this morning just before the sun came over the tree tops. It won't get much colder than that through winter, though we may hit the low 20s or high teens once or twice.
So this gave me a good test of the new wood stove's ability to get the place warmed up to a reasonable temp. (It was 55 in MoHo when I got up at 3:30 and that is not reasonable.)
Two hours after lighting a fire it's 59. That sounds cold but with sweatshirts on it's really not too bad. And in another hour we'll be well into the 60's.

Yesterday afternoon I repainted the east side of MoHo where the rain had streaked the paint I put on three weeks ago. Today I painted the (narrow) north side except for the trim color. I'll do that tomorrow and then start on the west side, the only part now unpainted. I *may* need to get another gallon of gray.

My work at UFC reminds me of throwing a non-swimmer in the deep end to let them figure it out on their own. I decided to do things that seemed reasonable in the two main areas of my responsibilities and hope they led to progress. So far I think they have. We'll have a meeting of all the small group leaders a week from Sunday to gather information on each group so we have a good handle on how that important part of UFC's ministry is going. That will allow us to track and make improvements as necessary.
I've also sent out an email to the staff, elders, and a few other key men as part of the effort to get the men's discipleship program rolling. In a week or two we should be ready to get that effort into full operation. The goal is that each man who calls UFC their church home is either mentoring a guy or has access to a mentor if they want one. See 2 Tim. 2:2.

My head cold has entered that blubbery stage where I sneeze all the time, my eyes water and my nose runs constantly. This is SO fun.
Lord, please get me past this stage before class Sunday morning!

A case can be made, it seems to me, that someone seeking asylum acts contrary to that end if they begin by breaking the law through entering the country illegally. "Please take me in and give me protection despite my disregard for your laws and policies."
Or am I missing something?
