"Who dares teach must never cease to learn." - John Cotton Dana
(Re. the quote above:) Few things seem so wasteful as an uncurious mind, yet intellectual curiosity seems so rare. The world is full of fascinating things but so many people have the attitude that if it isn't immediately practical it's of no use knowing.
(I looked it up. Both uncurious and incurious are acceptable spellings. I wondered.)
I had a lot of trouble getting the fire going this morning At 2 a.m. it was 55 degrees in MoHo, which called for a good fire, but all I could get was smoke and barely smoldering logs. It took me waaay too long to realize I'd forgotten to open the damper. And I got way too much smoke out into the room. I was surprised the smoke detectors didn't go off.
As I write this (4 a.m.) it's up to 61 so we're headed the right direction. It should be very comfortable by the time Pam gets up around 7:00. She'll also wonder why it smells like a camp fire in here.
The local news sites are abysmal. Wouldn't you think ballot coverage would be the lead story with results for all the propositions prominently displayed?! Nope. Had to go hunting via Google to find all of that.
In Oregon...
Voters approved a ballot measure to provide housing for the homeless but soundly defeated propositions that would have prohibited tax money from funding abortions, have required a legislative super-majority to raise state taxes, and would have constitutionally prohibited any sales tax on grocery items.
Navy blue.

As you could tell the above was written this morning. It's now evening, just before dinner. And bed.
(There won't be much time between those two.)
My brain may explode overnight. I think it's typical of anyone who starts a new job - I'm overwhelmed with names, terms, tasks, org chart relationships.....
I don't think I'm as competent as they think I am.
The plan was to take advantage of this week's rain-free weather to finish painting MoHo's exterior. I got exactly none of that done. Between time at the church offices every morning (and sometimes into the afternoon), this increasingly nasty head cold, and pressing chores like fetching animal feed I didn't have time or energy for painting.
I hope to change that tomorrow, or Friday for sure. I think if I work efficiently I can get it all done by Saturday evening. We'll see.
The Democrats took back the majority in the House and the GOP extended its majority in the Senate.
Dems and Republicans will accuse each other of the most irresponsible behavior and very little will get accomplished. That last part may be the best part.

Dinner is done (Mmmmm) and with a full tummy I'm officially crashing.
