Truth
I need a vacation. Somewhere warm with nothing that has to be done today or this week. No decisions to be made, problems to be solved. or upset people to be assuaged.
And because that isn't going to happen anytime in the foreseeable future I've lit a fire in the wood stove and will soon go have my second cup of coffee.
It's 33 degrees and creeping up on 7 a.m. Buddy is sitting next to me with his "Isn't it time for our morning walk??" look.
Yes it is, Buddy. And in just a few minutes the goats will launch into their morning rendition of the "feeding time" bleating.
I should be able to get those two critter tasks done before the day's steady rain begins.
About six weeks ago I used the money accumulated in our "special projects" savings account to buy three more windows. Yesterday I got the third of those installed and the exterior trimmed out. That makes six of MoHo's windows now replaced with three more to go.
The old aluminum framed single pane windows got condensation on the inside and would sweat something terrible, and as a result the interior trim had long since rotted away. These vinyl double pane windows will be much better in every respect, including eliminating the sweating problem.
I didn't get the windows with argon gas between the panes; that seemed like overkill for MoHo. These are just good ol' American air between panes. Much cheaper, but it's still going to be a huge improvement. I think the addition of trim around the outside also upgrades MoHo's look. It's hard to install trim with vertically corrugated aluminum siding but from 20' it's OK.
Note: this third window has yet to be painted. It's only white because the trim comes pre-primed. Sunday afternoon, the next rain free day, it will get two coats of exterior semi-gloss white.
Oh, and those trees are a reflection. We don't really have 150' trees growing inside.
USAToday.com headline: "Poll: Dems favor candidate who can beat Trump"
Now there's a stunner.
When the EMT's give a heart attack guy the paddles the yell "CLEAR" first and everyone backs off so they don't get zapped, too.
Do they have to do that when someone gets tazed? Or is the voltage too low for it to hurt someone in contact with the bad guy? Any volunteers to help us find out?
I started on our taxes this afternoon. It was a little chilly in here and instead of starting a fire I covered up with the blanket. That was a mistake. Thirty five minutes later I woke up with absolutely no desire to go back to taxes.
Something about a rainy day makes naps so much better than the IRS.
OK, almost anything beats out the IRS.
This cowl cover is what you do when you don't have the time, money, or skills to do the rust repair on the piece underneath but need to drive your '66 Mustang durning the Oregon rainy season. It seals against the cowl around the perimeter held tightly by spring clips that go on/off easily. And it's fairly unobtrusive.
I just baked a pan of cinnamon rolls that I'll frost in the morning. We have company coming over Monday morning and I wanted something for a mid-morning snack.
Carmen was one of my students early in my 10 years teaching at the college. Straight As. She married Dale and for years they've been missionaries with the Evangelical Free Church. They have four kids, the oldest in college and the other three traveling with them.
Dale's specialty is a bit unique. He is, by all accounts, an expert on team building, and travels the world helping EFC missionaries work better together with each other and with the nationals. I'm eager to hear more about what he does and how. To be honest, it feels a little touchy-feely for me but his track record speaks for itself so there's that.
I'm looking forward to our time together! The only trick will be finding a place in MoHo for five more people. We may have to put Pam on the front porch.
