"What luck for the rulers that men do not think." - Adolf Hitler
It blew last night and the wind brought in rain. Not a lot, but watering the garden isn't necessary and that makes it enough. Today was warm, sunny, and breezy. In other words, beautiful. It will start raining Saturday night and continue through Tuesday. This back-and-forth is a sign that fall is upon us.
I got Frenchie's hooves trimmed. I started out planning to do Stella's but she refused to get up on the stand so I went with the goat who would cooperate - sort of. Frenchie did her best to kick out of my grip until she suddenly just gave up and stood there while I finished.
Is there any chance Stella watched that and figured it out? Naw.
I did a few small detail items on Sally this morning and then installed the battery.
Dead.
After charging it for an hour it took some cranking but she soon fired right up and ran as smoothly as a Swiss watch. I'm sure eager to get her back on the road.
I put this on my Facebook page. It wasn't a huge hit but I'm not surprised. And I'm OK with that. This is a wonderful piece of music with wonderful lyrics sung by a woman with a crystal clear and nimble voice who doesn't have any affectations. She just stands there and sings. Beautifully.
I just went back and listened to it again, and again it moved me.
OK, this turned into another 2-day post, and if I'm not careful it will go to three.
I think my lesson for tomorrow morning is set except for some reading I want to do this afternoon to review the doctrine of inspiration (we're in 2 Peter tomorrow). We only have one more class in this year's Bible Project, with a party on the 22nd. We'll take the 29th off and then start up a new year on 10/6. I hope we get a lot of first-timers.
I'm in town now, at Starbucks where I've been doing some studying and looking at instructional You Tube videos. I need to get gas on the way home and stop at the feed store. With rain from Sunday through Tuesday I need to get hay and grain today and get it into the barn. I'll get two bales each of alfalfa and grass hay, two sacks of goat grain and two of chicken feed. That will all add up, but it means I won't have to go back for 3 or 4 weeks. As we move into fall and more rainy weather it's nice not to have to do this in bad weather. Grab the rain-free days when they show up.
Sometimes the world is just too weird and the media too interested in playing up the weirdness instead of things that actually matter. I get discouraged with stories that are clearly more hype than substance, grab people for interviews that are obviously on the fringes (there can't be that many crazies, can there?) and obviously choose stories that seek to advance an agenda.
If I'm looking for coverage of something that really doesn't matter to the grand scheme of things I can get lost in sports.
Which, by the way, has plenty of bizzare stuff right now.
This story grabbed my attention. Imagine buying a painting for $59 that ends up selling for $4.5 million. That is a return on investment!
And in the "I don't get it" category, what's the point of paying huge money for art, especially when it gets put in a vault because, after all, it's too pricey to have out on display where someone might steal it?
And I like (good) art. I grew up in a home with art on the walls and am surprised how many homes have either blank walls or only family pics. So do yourself a favor and go to AllPosters.com, find something you like (they've got everything from the masters to pop art) and add some class to your living room. You can do it so cheaply that if you get tired of that Monet in a year you can replace it with Andy Warhol.
At 3:30 four bales of hay and four sacks of grain are in their places. Ripe tomatoes are picked and in the freezer awaiting Pam's return (she'll can them), and 19-year old Bianca Andreescu beat Serena to win the women's U.S. Open (yay!). I'm going to do that reading, eat me some goat stew, and settle in to some mindless TV for a few hours before turning in for the night.
Tomorrow is going to be a good day!
