Tomorrow is the big day...our NPR debut. Because our local NPR station doesn't carry Marketplace Money I'll have to find it as a podcast. So many of you have asked about it that I'll post the link tomorrow night.
OK, nobody asked, but I know you meant to.
Nancy Farghalli said she'd send me a CD of the broadcast. I think I'll put it in a frame and hang it on the wall like artists do with their platinum albums.
I had this silly notion that once I'd sent the curriculum off to production I had a break. Not so much. Production found problems that I need to fix. Oh well.
Nancy Pelosi has painted herself into a corner. But politicians are, by definition, slippery so I don't expect her to go down over this.
I heard Charles Barkley describe the Lakers as arrogant. He said they are so sure they're better than anyone else that sometimes they just don't bring game, thinking that even with half an effort they can win. Looks like they're learning some humility.
Have you seen the new Best Buy ad slogan?
"Best Buy. You, happier."
Who came up with that??
I can think of several options.
- An ad agency that determined Americans really are idiots who believe possessions bring happiness.
- An ad agency (maybe the same one) that determined the mountain of installment debt that has buried Americans has not yet produced even an ounce of common sense among those uber consumers.
- A really slick pastor who sold Best Buy on an ad slogan that provided that pastor (and the rest of us) the ultimate illustration for eighteen different sermons.
Spending money we don't have for things we don't need. The American way.
Look where it got us.

One of the reasons I quit BBY was the push to get everyone to sign up for the credit card. That, and the all too regular sight of a family of four or five using multiple credit cards to pay for a big screen TV or video game system. While the kids are in ratty clothes, mom and dad have decided that TV/PS2 is so important that they'll take what little room they have left on their credit cards and pack it full of a depreciating luxury.
Craig, would you please post a link to the Marketplace Money piece? I've been meaning to ask.
