Mass transitMark the calendar. I got more done today than I planned, and I had a fairly ambitious to-do list. First things first - I worked on my sermon and my Foundations lesson. In the worship service we'll look at the incarnation and its role in history and in the second hour we'll talk about conflict resolution in marriage.
Then the bulletins, the service order and my notes into and out of the printer. Three loads of laundry done, folded and put away.
We're adding a power amp to our sound system to boost the volume we get out of the mixer. Now that we're in a cafeteria the space gobbles up the sound. The amp and the necessary cables came while I was in Seattle so late this morning I set everything up in the garage to make sure it all worked. We have a short time for set-up on Sunday mornings so a dry run today made sense. Besides, they say we're going to get LOTS of volume out of this new setup and I was looking forward to blasting some rock n' roll into the Sun City 'hood.
Alas, I couldn't get it to work. I suspect there's a switch/button somewhere that moves the mixer board's output from the speaker jacks to the "main out" jacks; I just don't know where it is. So Matt's going to talk to his guys tonight and come with that info tomorrow morning.
Too bad, because I really wanted to make all these old people think a new garage band had just formed..."Born in the U.S.A...."
Just before lunch I went up to Home Depot and came back with a 60 lb. bag of concrete and 22 2x8x16 red brick pavers. This afternoon I mixed the concrete and used it to seal up the bottom of the walls on the inside, where the stucco-covered blocks meet the floor. Then I mixed up the half bag of mortar mix and set the pavers atop the walls. The new concrete at the bottom extends the curing time before I can seal it with DryLok but I decided it was better to delay the filling for the sake of this extra step. I do NOT want water leaking out, and a few extra days wait could save me hours upon hours of extra work after the fact.
This evening I headed into an open house at the Grays'. Given Brandie's mad skills in the kitchen, including her specialty - desserts - and I gave serious thought to skipping dinner.

Coming home (Gerta) reminded me it's the holiday season, which means the holiday party season. I think, based on their driving, even at this relatively early hour some have started early on the eggnog. (Does anyone drink eggnog anymore?) A guy in a huge pickup truck passed me and then darted in front of me and slowed way down. Why?? I'm driving a '67 VW for Pete's sake. It's not like I could cut anyone off even if I wanted to. I'm in the right hand lane doing the speed limit.
Maybe that was the problem.
Paul Ryan will be chairman of the House Finance Committee in the new legislature. That's a good thing.
It's the end of the day and tomorrow is the most important day of the week.
Goodnight.
