"Of those who say nothing, few are silent." - Thomas Neill

I hate call-backs. I got one today from the renter where I replaced the garbage disposal last Saturday. She said it didn’t work, just made a weak hummmm. While talking on the phone I had her press the reset button and try the allen wrench routine. Neither worked so I had to drive in.

Good news and bad news.

The good news: I didn’t screw up the installation.

The bad news: defective disposal. I got it to do more than hum, but the sound it makes when running “normally” is really ugly!

So I’ll go back this Saturday, remove it and take it to Lowe’s for a replacement.

Grrrr.

After an unexplained delay the deposit for Gerta arrived this afternoon via PayPal. She has until a week from the auction close - next Tuesday morning - to get me the balance. It may be coincidental that her dad, who leaves about 30 miles from here, came to look at it and the deposit showed up shortly thereafter. Either way, I have that money and feel much better about the transaction. Now I’m eager to get the garage space freed up so I can start work on Ilsa.

You probably heard the news item about the mother who drove the family van into the Hudson River with three young children inside. In the days and weeks ahead they’ll probably piece together the factors that led her to do that. But the NBC reporter who said “They’ll be looking at what drove this mother over the edge” probably could have found a better metaphor.

We watched Mike & Mike in the Morning before Pam headed back to work for the first time in about 10 days. They were broadcasting from Dallas and had Mark Cuban, owner of the Mavericks on as a guest. During their interview with him they talked about the possibility of him buying another sports franchise. He’s been mentioned as a possible owner of the Cubs and the Jets. He said he would never be a minority partner in any team ownership deal because if he’s going to shell out the kind of money involved in owning a team he doesn’t want to share decision making with a committee of fellow owners. “If I buy into a sports team you’d better get out the knee pads.”

Pam got a puzzled look on her face, so I explained that was a (more aptly chosen) metaphor saying everyone else involved in that team’s operation should be prepared to kneel at his feet - do what he directs.

Whatever else you think of Mark Cuban, he says what’s on his mind and is a great interview. He’s paid some BIG bucks to the NBA for violating their code of silence on subjects they deem not for public comment by owners.

After my brain processed Cuban’s clever turn of phrase I thought about what I had done early this morning before turning on their show. I made the slides for this Sunday’s songs at Pathway, including “Only a God Like You” by Tommy Walker.

For the praises of man I will never ever stand.

For the kingdoms of this world I’ll never give my heart away or shout my praise.

My allegiance and devotion, my heart’s desire and all emotion,

Go to serve the Man who died upon that tree.

Only a God like you could be worthy of my praise and all my hope and faith.

To only a King of all kings do I bow my knee and sing, give my everything.

To only my Maker, my Father, my Savior,

Redeemer, Restorer, Rebuilder, Rewarder,

To only a God like you do I give my praise.

So I guess I shouldn’t apply for a job with Mark Cuban, huh?
