I before E except after C. We live in a weird world.
I wouldn't mind the whole "shiny thing" routine if only I could remember where I was before it caught my attention. All I can remember is, it was something kind of important.
The doorbell rang yesterday afternoon. That rarely happens here, and when it's 111 degrees outside I expect it to be either law enforcement or a lunatic. Turns out it was the latter - some guy selling meat off his truck. Who in their right mind buys meat from a guy driving a '94 S-10 in triple-digit temps??
Do I look like someone who wants to spend three days retching bad beef?
The seat frames are painted, including the broken black knobs that are supposed to keep the backs latched in place. Krylon "Almond Gloss" and "Extreme Chassis Black" from Eastwood Paints. I'm not assembling the backs to the seats because they get upholstered separately, and that waits until I have the body back.
I called Pat today and he says he hasn't done much work on the body since I last saw it two months ago. That's OK, though, because I want to have the engine back, all its parts back on and bolted back to the tranny before the body goes on. I should get the engine back from Steve about the middle of the month and it will take me another week or more to get all the parts prepped and put back on - carb, distributor, generator, etc. Mostly I just wanted Pat to know I'd like to get the body in a month or so and touching base was my way of squeaking ever so slightly. And I think it worked. He said I should call him next weekend and he'll have more for me to come out and see.
Yes, I know my sermon for Sunday looks a lot like a homily, and yes, I know the homiletics prof said "don't preach homilies!" But it's really the only way to handle this section. So deal with it!
It is SO stinkin' hot here. Now at 32 straight days over 110 degrees and virtually every heat-related record was broken in the month of August.
One of the businesses that supplies parts for VW restorations (though their primary business is customs) is an outfit called "Chirco" in Tuscon, 90 minutes south of us. I planned to use them for the engine rebuild until I found Steve at VW Performance about 20 minutes away. I'm on Chirco's email list and got a notice saying they're hosting a raffle for a '69 Ghia that was restored a couple of years ago at a cost of over $20,000. It's to raise funds for a young father of two who is very involved in the local VW scene and whose wife died last month after a long battle with cancer. I bought a ticket this afternoon - $20. The drawing is on 12/31 in Tucson, but they've got my phone number so there shouldn't be any problem when I win.
Gov. Rick Perry, the GOP candidate currently making so much of his evangelical faith, including a headlining appearance at a Houston prayer rally, has made his tax returns public, the only GOP candidate to do so to date. Those returns show that between 2000 and 2010 the Perrys gave $12,688 to Christian organizations. That works out to 0.47% of their income during that period.
