"I am still learning." - Michelangelo
Because she has congestive heart failure, mom has to spend several hours every day with her feet elevated above her heart. She has a stack of pillows that she puts under her ankles while she lies on her back on the bed.
I just went back to check on her and she's sound asleep. But when you're 95 laying down pretty much guarantees falling asleep.
(Turns out the same is true if you're 67.)
Yes, I'm in Seattle. I left at 3:30 this morning. I didn't plan to leave until 4 (sleep in) but I was awake at 3:00 and decided there was no point staring at the ceiling. The rental car was already packed so I got dressed, put the last couple of things in the back seat, tiptoed in to say goodbye to Pam and hit the road.
I now know never to consider a Hyundai Sonata as a purchase. You get a steering wheel, two pedals, and a place to put your sit-down, and precious little else. Which turned out to cost me too much money.
I always use cruise control. If I'm on the highway or the freeway I set the cruise to 7 mph over the speed limit so I don't have to worry about getting a ticket.
The cop said he clocked me at 70 mph, then 72, then 71... (A 60 mph zone)
"Yeah, it's a rental, it doesn't have cruise, and I'm not used to how this thing drives." I was honestly trying to keep it in that same 7 mph over zone but was having trouble in this tiny thing that's unfamiliar to me and seems to vary speed a lot.
He wrote me for "1-5 mph over the limit" which I took to be an indication that he believed my explanation, but even that costs $105. Grrr.
I had a good visit with Dale and Judy. They're living with gracious friends in Spanaway WA while he goes through weekly chemo treatments at a hospital here in Seattle to fight his pancreatic cancer. He looks pretty good and typically only has one bad day right after the treatment.
He'll find out how things are going when he has his next MRI in two weeks.
Good people, and it's easy to ask God to cure him, whether through the agency of medicine or by direct intervention.
At a b'fast stop on the way up I had a phone conversation with a rep from Amazon. I got an email saying that their review of my files found some problems I should address. The images embedded in the text have a resolution below the 200 dpi that they say is required for good print quality. As a result they look a bit fuzzy. There were a couple of other simple issues that I've already fixed (margins).
He had some good suggestions about how I might fix the dpi issue which I'll try while I'm here with mom. I scanned the images on our cheap HP printer at home so it may be that the dpi is too low to fix by any method. If I can't find a work-around through the software I'm using I'll go to Staples Saturday when I'm home and rescan the images on their machine which scans at 600 dpi and then drop those in. I am impatient to get these two books DONE and on the street but I also want them to be right, to have a quality look. The medium shouldn't get in the way of the message.
So I will force myself to take the extra time to get it right. (He said, talking himself into that course of action.)
I also brought along photocopies I made of the relevant pages from my commentaries so that I can do sermon and lesson prep for my stint in NY. I leave two weeks from tomorrow.
They have a good classical music station here in Seattle that I listen to as soon as I'm within range. The last thing played as I was getting out of the car was the overture to Tannhauser by Wagner. That's a favorite that always makes me smile on the inside. Good listening! (I've never heard anything but from Wagner.)
We'll leave soon for dinner in the dining room and then back up here where I'll do some easy tasks that mom has trouble with because of her arthritis. More catching up on things here and there, and then sweet sleep.
God is good.
