"To be or not to be. That's not really a question." - Jean-Luc Godard
This is gonna be short and not so sweet.
I started work on the first book, Understanding Your Bible, at 4 a.m. and worked straight through to 1 p.m. The problem, Amazon said, was that all the graphics were set at too low a DPI (dots per inch) and would appear fuzzy, blurry. OK, there's only about 40 of them in the book so that should be a big deal, eh?
I tried even more work-arounds before finally calling Amazon. She said they couldn't give software advice but referred me to a users forum they maintain where people can post questions and get help.
An hour later I learned that Mac Pages does NOT do a good job of exporting to PDF. The text part is OK but any graphics get messed up.
So between about 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. I transferred it into the version of Word I'd purchased and then struggled to format it in a program I don't know anything about.
To say it was stressful doesn't begin to describe how it felt. But by 1:00 I *think* I had it done, exported to PDF from Word, and sent off to Amazon. Now I wait to hear from them ("typically within 24 hours") about whether or not this fixed the problem. If it didn't I'm finding a cliff and jumping off.
I needed some stress relief after that nine hour stint so I went for a run and then mucked out the kidding half of the barn. Then a shower and off to Enterprise Car Rental.
We had small group tonight but I left early. The plan is to be up an out the door tomorrow between 4 and 5 a.m. headed north. I'll stop in Spanaway WA to visit with Dale and Judy from the church in Prunedale where we spent 7 years. Dale is battling prostate cancer.
Then on to Seattle to visit mom.
I'll drive home Friday, leaving her place shortly after b'fast. Yeah, that puts me in commute traffic but so be it.
Enterprise gave me a Hyundai Accent. It's about the size of a breadbox and has NO bells or whistles. No cruise control, no steering wheel radio controls, no remote trunk button, no nuthin'. The only thing I'll miss is the cruise control which helps me avoid speeding tickets. Oh well. It should get good mileage.
Don't know if I'll be able to post from Seattle but I'll have access to wifi so it should happen.
If you don't hear from me check at the bottom of that cliff.
