"If I melt dry ice can I swim without getting wet?" - Steven Wright
I leave for Brazil three weeks from tomorrow (Tuesday). Since getting my outlines and slides done I haven't given it too much thought bit it's time to start going over and over and over my material.
No kids yet. Poor Sundae pretty much just lays in the birthing stall and breathes like each breath is a burden.
I got the drywall sanded and ready for priming, which I may get done before going to bed tonight. I need to get this project wrapped up because the to-do list is growing faster than I'm getting things checked off.
Speaking of getting projects checked off, I probably rushed the submission of the text of Understanding Your Bible to Amazon a couple of months ago. Each time since then that I opened it I'd notice errors - typos and formatting issues. So over the last couple of weeks I've gone through it line by line and tagged what I *hope* is each of those errors. Tomorrow morning I'll open the MS Word doc and begin fixing those errors, and then submit a corrected copy to Amazon to replace the original file.
The problem: Microsoft Word for Mac is extremely glitchy. In fact, many of the formatting errors came when I converted it from Mac Pages into Word for Mac. And then, in a development that made me VERY frustrated, Microsoft decided to "fix" what it took to be errors but in fact were not. It didn't give may any option to reject their "fixes;" Mr. Gates just decided to impose his will on my document.
I'm almost afraid to open it back up again on the assumption that The Evil Empire will do that again, adding to the number of issues I have to fix. If you hear that I've been institutionalized and placed on powerful psychotherapeutic meds you'll know why.
Can someone explain why the AZ Diamondbacks can start with such promise, rising to the top of their division and equal to the best teams in the rest of MLB and then fall like a Russian satellite, losing 9 of the last 10 games? If they started bad and stayed bad I could deal with that. But this business of starting so well and then crashing just isn't fair.
I looked at some of the pictures from Saturday's royal wedding. This is my favorite. I hope the bride and groom are half as happy as they look in the photos and stay that way throughout a long marriage.
And it should be illegal for children - siblings! - to be as adorable as Prince William and Kate's. Goodness!
I engaged the barista in conversation when ordering our drinks at Starbucks yesterday morning. I asked her if it felt like major changes were coming to the company and she said that most of the "new" things were already the informal policy. It used to be that you had to order something every two hours or more to sit there but that would no longer be required. Now you can just hang out there and not order anything.
I'm curious to see if what I expect to happen does indeed occur - that Starbucks becomes the equivalent of a drop-in homeless shelter. Given the size of the homeless population in Eugene that could be a major problem for their business, including the one we go to on Sunday mornings before church.
We'll know for sure once we get to mid-September and the rain starts.
This upcoming weekend is a holiday weekend. Our pastor, Brett, admitted in his sermon intro yesterday to feeling burned out and asked me if I'd preach for him so he could go on a camping/hunting trip with his son and a friend. Today he asked if I'd also cover the service at the Oregon State Prison in Salem Sunday evening so he could camp Sunday night and return Monday. I said yes. (Our church does the OSP service twice a month and Brett preaches there as part of that ministry.) I've done both before and enjoyed both (except for the FAIL at the first preaching experience) and am glad for the opportunity to minister to the minister. I know the feeling. So added to this week's to-do list is thorough prep for Sunday's efforts. High priority.
It's now late afternoon. As soon as Pam gets here, which should be any minute, I'll head for the gym. I haven't been there since before I went to Seattle over Mother's Day weekend and I'm feeling guilty about that. In an hour I'll be feeling sore because of that.
