"The best way to escape from your problem is to solve it." - Robert Anthony
The east side of MoHo gets almost no sun because of the 150' fir trees that shade it in the mornings. Add in the Oregon rain and we get a green crud growing on the aluminum siding. It's not moss and looks more like algae. Either way it makes this place look even trashier. So I spent time this morning scrubbing it down with a strong bleach solution. It looks better now. Still homely, but a clean homely. (Sounds like a bad prom date.)
Eclair is doing well. For the first time this afternoon I didn't have to pry his mouth open to get him started on the bottle. I just held the nipple in front of his face and he went for it.
Progress.
I did pull ups as part of my workout routine when we lived in AZ and installed pull up bar in Barnette when we moved here. For several months I was pretty good about using it but about a year ago I stopped. In January I started back but that only lasted a few weeks before I had stopped again.
I don't know why, but at the beginning of April my lack of fitness started to bug me. I joined the gym in Veneta and determined to get back to pull ups. On April first I went out to Barnette and discovered I could barely do one pull up, something that was embarrassing, even if I was the only one who knew it. So I decided to do one several times throughout the day until I got up to 10 sessions of one each. Then I did two pull ups throughout the day until I was up to 10 sessions during the day.
Today I reached my goal. I did 10 sessions of 10 pull ups each.
So why am I still scrawny? This is NOT fair.
I thought it was the chickens eating the rhubarb leaves so I surrounded the two plants with fencing. I've got some new leaves coming up and they're showing the same problem.
Slugs! Or maybe snails. Either way I'll be getting some bait tomorrow.
Why do they call it bait? That's what you use to draw fish in to your hook. I want poison.
Marta came over this morning and disbudded the doe she's decided to take in payment as the breeding fee. We agreed she'd have her pick of the kids or the meat of the next one I butchered and she chose Canolli. We'll do this every five kids. That's a very reasonable stud fee!
Disbudding isn't fun for anyone, especially the kid. But it's a little like circumcision in that the kid doesn't feel any pain once it's over and they have no memory of it. And a goat with horns can be a real hassle for the owner and a problem for other goats in the herd.
She didn't disbud Donut or Eclair because I'll butcher them at about eight or nine months and the horns will only be a few inches long at that point. So there's no reason to put any of us through that nasty procedure.

One morning when I was walking my dog, I saw a woman in her yard sprinkling yellow stuff around her plants. I asked her what it was she was sprinkling, and she said it was cornmeal, to keep slugs and snails away from the plant. I haven't tried it myself, as we don't really have a problem with the slimy creatures.
