"Much of what we call management consists of making it difficult for people to get their work done." - Peter Druker

The first selfie

Buddy really is the ideal companion dog. Aside from his irrepressible urge to chase the barn cats he doesn't have any bad habits and is very good at the things you want from of a dog. When he really has to go out to relieve himself he comes over, looks at me, and gently paws at my leg. We've heard him bark twice, both times when someone came to the door (that's a good thing out here in the woods).
When we go for walks he stays by my side and when I stop and give the command he sits. The first four places we walk by have multiple dogs who see us coming and charge the fence snarling and barking ferociously. Buddy just ignores them. The fourth place has the dogs that come down the drive, out onto the road and act like they're going to attack. I've used the slingshot - haven't hit any of them yet - to drive them back up their drive. Buddy just stands there at my side. It makes me wonder what he'd do if one of them actually came at me.
He does have one odd habit. While he's hunched to do his business he rotates in a circle. That invariably brings his nose around to discover a turd he's just laid down. And every time he gets this, "Oh look! Some dog has pooped here." expression on his face even while his rear end is laying down another.

I'm going up to Seattle next week to see mom. I wish I could take Buddy along. He'd be the perfect gentleman, calm and affectionate. And when it was time I'd say, "Sit. Lay down." and he would, and stay there until I released him.

Oregon media and advocates are moving away from the term homeless and are now calling them the unhoused. Silly season is fully upon us.
The city of Eugene owns a now-empty lot where the old city hall was located. It's going to be turned into a "temporary" homeless camp with large heated tents, rest rooms, and a day access tent. The city council isn't sure yet how much it will cost but it will be covered "in part" (!) by $8.5 million from a community safety initiative.
Oh, and the site will have wifi, presumably so they can use their smart phones and iPads.

It seems especially sad when a great mind like Sandra Day O'Connor's is afflicted with dementia. I know it sounds horribly judgmental but let's be honest, there are some people where we'd barely notice. Others, whether we agree with them or not, have so far to fall that it seems more brutal.

Who's feeding a caravan of (now) 7,000 people. These tiny towns in Mexico where they're stopping certainly can't, but oddly - or not surprisingly - the media aren't mentioning the mammoth logistical support the caravan is receiving from....????
It must be fish they're eating because something certainly smells like it.

Dolly has calmed down. She was pretty vocal this morning but less so this afternoon. That makes me think the cause was indeed being in heat which in goats lasts three days. So now we wait to see if this happens a month from now. She'll be old enough to breed the end of February so knowing when she's coming into heat will help us plan her assignation with one of Marta's bucks.

I'm going to finish up the vacuuming and moping, have my evening PB&J with coffee, and turn in for the night. Tomorrow's a big day. And Pam comes home tomorrow night!!!

Any word on how the hearing for Chip went? I said a prayer for him when you mentioned it last week and have been wondering how it turned out. Love that you mention people who need prayers!

Unfortunately, no word on Chip. Sunday I asked Bob, one of the UFC elders who is part of the regular group of men who go up for the service if he'd heard anything and he said no. I think there's no way to hear short of the UFC group being there, something that happens twice a month. So it may be a few weeks before I get word. But I will report back!! Thank you for praying. You'd like Chip. His size makes him a little scary at first, but as soon as he begins to talk his gracious spirit comes through.
