A Facebook friend sent me this today. I think it nears the edge of theological orthodoxy, but I like it.
It was a very good, productive day. I'm wasted (again) but feeling good about the current status of several projects.
We hit 110 in Sun City today, a new record, and because I knew it was coming I got to work on the truck as soon as I had enough light.
With Pam's help I got the tailgate installed and hooked up the chains that hold it in place if it's a '59 Chevy. (By the early 60's they'd progressed to a latch mechanism.)
Then the rear bumper went on.
I got the LED taillights wired in and almost working. The running lights work but the brake lights and directionals don't. I tracked the brake light issue down to the switch up front where there's no power coming in, so tomorrow I'll run a new supply wire from the switch to the accessory fuse block I added when doing the electrical. The directionals will, I hope, happen when I've finished sorting out the wiring for the new turn signal switch I installed.
The rear end looks pretty good IMO.
But wait! There's more!
I put the steering wheel back on and fired it up. Then, with great trepidation I put it in gear and ...
it moved!
I didn't take it out on the street because at that point I didn't have sufficient time or confidence, but first gear takes it forward, the brakes stop it, and reverse takes it backwards. That means it will go on and off a car hauler, which means if it had to go tomorrow it could. Sort of.
Tomorrow morning I'll go to Bell Glass and pick up the side windows and vent windows and get them installed - a nasty job that I'm hoping won't involve bad words. With doors that close reasonably tightly the truck will then be weatherproof and mobile. That gives me almost a week to sort through some issues like the directional wiring and maybe sneak it over to get an exhaust system installed.
And the productivity didn't end there.
I called Four Corners Transport, the booking firm in Washougal, WA that I've used for shipping cars several times already. (Do you know what Washougal is famous for?) The truck is scheduled for pickup sometime between next Wednesday and Saturday and will be delivered no earlier than the following Monday.
After getting disconnected from yet another CenturyLink I finally found a guy who promised not to hang up on me. By the time we were done he'd scheduled the installation of a land line for MoHo that will go in that same Monday morning. That way the guy bringing my truck can call us on either my cell phone or, if we're at the property, on the land line. Yeah, we already have a phone number. If you want it let me know.
Late this afternoon I went to Best Buy and got a phone for the aforementioned land line that includes two wireless handsets and promises "unparalleled range." I'm hoping we can put the base unit in the kitchen window and I'll be able to use one of those handsets in Fred, 100' away.
I also get a cheap FM radio so we can listen to NPR through the sound bar that replaced the stereo system I took out.
And a geeky bluetooth ear unit so I can talk on my phone while driving in OR. AZ is one of the few states left that allows everything, including texting, while driving. The gendarmes in OR take a decidedly dim (and expensive) view of that practice.
Pam continues to do a great job packing and we're nearing the point where what's left we need for the next 10 days. We put a piece of blue painter's tape on all cabinets and cupboards that are empty so we know they can be ignored. Our kitchen looks like a blue dot-to-dot book and the guest bedroom has blue tape on the door. I gotta finish the garage and the patio.
But for today I'm done. Some HGTV tonight, another cup of Costa Rica joe, and BED.
