"I have tried to know nothing about a great many things, and I have succeeded fairly well." - Robert Benchley
Pot pourri:
I got the passenger side glass installed save for some molding that requires a screw size I don't have. Never mind how many hours it took, it's in, and the driver's side should go a lot faster now that I have an idea how it all goes together. One thing that might slow me down: the driver's door is a repop (replacement) and lacks some of the holes for attaching the vent window. They'll be tricky to mark and drill.
I took Pam to the airport at 4:30 this morning for a quick trip to CA. I pastored a church in Riverside in the 80's and she got to be good friends with three other gals, two of whom are sisters. One sister has flown into L.A. from Pekin, IL, the other from Denver, Pam from Phx, and they're spending the weekend with the gal who now lives about an hour south of Riverside. She'll get back Monday night and should be all talked out. Gabfest.
Two songs with noteworthy lyrics come up on my Norah Jones Pandora station - good musical accompaniment for tricky truck tasks like installing windows.
The first is the song Breathe by Anna Nalick. It's all good but my favorite line is, "Life's like an hourglass glued to the table." True dat.
The other requires some explanation. Over 42 years as a pastor I've heard lots of life stories, some repeatedly from different people. One of them comes from women whose dads left when they were girls, usually for another woman. Though the details vary - their age when dad left, the apparent status of mom & dad's marriage - in each case they vividly remember the details of hearing the news and their deep emotional response. It became a defining event in their lives, in some cases with sad consequences.
I think of those gals every time I hear John Mayer's Daughters. (YouTube video here.)
Dads, your faithful presence at home has everything to do with your daughter's future, including her marriage.
