"The celebrity is a person who is known for his well-knownness." - Daniel J. Boorstin
I think you should just assume that my posts are written in installments throughout the day whether or not that's stated.
At 8:00 is was snowing on Baker Rd.
I want to find Al Gore and give him a serious butt whoopin'.
Pam went into town to do her normal Friday grocery shopping run. I went into beast clean mode, vacuuming, mopping, rearranging, and pitching. If it bugs me I should do something about it, right? Plus we've got a family of five stopping by in two weeks as they pass through Oregon and I wanted to see if we could fit another chair in the living room. We can. I still need to find space for one more person.
(Late afternoon)
I just got a text message from Brett. He and his wife took an 11 day vacation to Palm Springs to get some sun in the middle of a bleak Oregon winter. Their departure was delayed because it was scheduled for the same day we got slammed with that record setting snow storm, so they ended up leaving out of Portland a day late.
They were scheduled to return today but all flights out of Palm Springs are delayed because of freak winds. They hope to get a flight out tomorrow.
Can I have something ready in the unlikely event they're stuck there another day?
Old preachers are worth something in a pinch.
Tomorrow will be busy. I'm picking up a moving dolly at 8:00 from our local U-Haul. I meet with Levy at 10:30 and will go from there into Eugene and the Restore shop. That's a retail store associated with Habitat for Humanity that sells used and surplus housing stuff.
In this case I'll be picking up a stove that Pam paid for while I was in Seattle. The stove in MoHo's kitchen is of the same vintage as MoHo and shows its age. It was a cheap stove then and doesn't even have the charm that makes some old things...charming, if not very functional. It lacks basic features present on all ranges made since about 1980, including an indicator that the oven is up to temp. And there is little relationship between the temp you select on the dial and the oven's actual temp as measured by our oven thermometer. The burners aren't level so everything runs to one side of the pan. That's why we've been checking into Restore regularly to see if they had a decent electric stove for a decent price.
Wednesday she found one. It's a solid surface GE with a warming "burner" and a nice oven. All appliances are on sale each Wednesday and she also got a senior discount, so w'ere getting a nice range for $270. (Nothing but the best for my wife!)
I'll pick up the dolly at 8:00, come home and load up this heap of metal (Restore will take it for recycling at no cost), meet with Levy, and then go pick up the "new" one.
About six months ago we replaced our vintage fridge with a nice one from Restore that cost us $250. So we'll have nice and very adequate appliances for just over $500, a bargain by any reckoning.
Again...
I have THE lowest maintenance wife in the world She doesn't care if it's new, just that it works reliably. She cares about the budget more than "fancy" or new. And she's lived with clunky appliances for 3+ years without complaining.
I'm blessed.
